Course 101: Introduction to Optometry
This class is intended for the new or less experienced employee. It is ideal for the newly hired individual and is designed to provide an overview of optometry along with basic knowledge of front desk skills including: the importance of data collection; basic billing requirements; documented HIPAA training; and basic customer service training.
 


Course 102: Billing and Coding Basics for the Patient Care Coordinator
This course is designed to assist the employee in understanding key billing codes used in optometry; reviewing the billing form for completeness and accuracy, and understanding the importance of and when referrals are needed.
 


Course 103: Customer Service Skills for the Patient Care Coordinator
Strong customer service and communication skills are key for a successful practice. How should you deal with the "difficult" individual? How can you assure that each and every person experiences exceptional service? This class builds on the basic skills discussed in earlier sessions. Advanced listening and customer services techniques will be discussed with an opportunity to practice these newly acquired skills utilizing role-playing and other exercises.
 


Course 201: PQRI for the Optometry Practice
The goals of this presentation are to give a general overview of the PQRI process as it pertains to optometry. It is intended to provide the optometric practice with enough information to determine if there are benefits to participation, and to provide the practice with information on how to proceed, with an emphasis on individual reporting.
 


Course 202: Red Flag Laws
What are the red flag laws and how do they impact the optometric practice. What is required and suggestions on how to implement a plan for your practice. There will be NO legal advice provided at this class. The goal is to make the practice aware of the new laws and provide an overview. Sufficient information will be provided to allow the practice to develop a plan that should be reviewed by their legal consultant prior to implementation.
 


Course 301: Basic Practice Management
This full day session is intended for the new or less experienced manager. The course is designed to provide an overview of medical practice management topics including: daily operations; staff issues; patient flow; the importance of budgets; and key reports.
 


Course 302: Job Descriptions and Performance Reviews
This class will discuss the importance of developing and using performance based job descriptions and employee reviews. One size does not fit all! We will provide suggestions on how to develop, implement and manage the employee review process.
 


Course 303: Staff Issues
Bring us your problems! This session will include proven methods for handling employee issues as well as an opportunity to share experiences with your peers. Participants will be asked to submit a brief description of an employee issue they are currently facing or have dealt with in the past. We will present these case scenarios during an interactive group discussion session.
 


Course 304: Team Building
Is it time to discover why your staff complains, but never suggests solutions? Does everyone go in a different direction? Do you dread staff meetings? Are you attempting to introduce change into the practice? If you've answered yes to any of these questions this session is for you! We will provide a variety of techniques to assist in creating a team approach to problem solving and change management.
 


Course 305: Compliance Plans
What is a compliance plan and why is one needed? This class will discuss the importance of developing and implementing a plan for your practice. We will discuss the data that should be looked at, and how the process can assist in identifying opportunities for improvement.
 


Course 306: Employee Handbooks and Policy Manuals
This will provide the basics for compiling an Employee Handbook. We will discuss the difference between policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. What policies MUST you have, and which should you have in order to assure professional and clear communication of the practice's rules to all employees.
